Body / Earth Chakras

the 7 subtle energy centres of the body

Divided Cells:  7 Portals to Interior Landscapes (apertures to potential)

In Sacred Geometry, the heptagon is the seven-sided polygon of veneration.  It represents movement through cycles:  7 days of the week, seven rays of the rainbow.  The seven chakras are subtle energy centres of the body.  In sound and music, the harmonics connect us via music through the spheres.   In mythology, Athena used her seven-sided symbol to weave her magical exploits.  In geomancy, the chakras can be applied to the energy centres of the earth's globe.

Chakra Colours

The photos below are taken from my boxes of coloured materials.  Chakra colours can range in tone and shade according to their condition.
The intention is to bring a sense of balance and harmony to the chakras by restoring these subtle energy centres of your body with clear, light-filled, pure colour.

7 - CROWN Chakra    Connection to the Divine.  Transformation

  • Positive Attributes: UNDERSTANDING.
Spirituality, bliss, pure cosmic energy.  In the body the Crown Chakra is connected to the pineal gland and supports the central nervous system and deep brain functions.  Magenta is the colour of the eternal, spiritual self, and connects us to a universal, infinite intelligence in which the secrets of perfection are held.  White represents the eternal light of Heaven / God.

  • Used in healing: To connect with universal peace, harmony and wisdom

When this chakra is out of balance, it represents:
  • a beaten, tortured soul, deeply connected to earthly concerns and material rewards
  • feelings of loneliness and insignificance
  • migraines and tension headaches
  • relationships defined by possessions

6 - THIRD EYE / BROW Chakra   Intuition, Sense of Purpose and Direction in Life

  • Positive Attributes: SEEING.

Located in the centre of your forehead, the Brow Chakra deals with creative intelligence, insight, seeing the bigger picture, imagination in thinking and decision making.  The ‘third eye’ area transmits the energy of the pituitary gland and supports your upper frontal sinuses, eyes, ears and outer layers of the brain.  Known in yoga as the 1000-petalled lotus flower, it is the centre of creative visualisation, and gathers information from the higher spiritual rhealms.

  • Used in healing: To connect with intuition and spirit guidance / wisdom.

When this chakra is out of balance it represents:
  • someone rendered powerless to make decisions, going against intuition.
  • feelings of being lost and indecisive
  • headaches and tension in your brow area

5 - THROAT Chakra    Communication and Self-expression

  • Positive attributes: SPEAKING.

Located in the centre of your throat, the Throat Chakra is connected to the voice, creative self-expression through sound, speaking your truth.  Physically it surrounds the thyroid gland, supports your neck, jaw, teeth, gums, mouth and lower sinuses.  Colours range from a pale blue to a deep indigo which is closer to the brow chakra.

  • Used in healing: Blue can be used to cool hyperactive energies or high blood pressure.

When this chakra is out of balance it represents:
  • confusion and disorientation caused by someone who has been fed a diet of lies, deceit and false hope.
  • fear of 'voicing' your opinions
  • sore throats, swollen glands, sinus problems

4 - HEART Chakra    Compassion, Love, Relationships, Self Acceptance and Nature

  • Positive attributes: LOVING.

Romance, joy, inner peace.  Located next to your spine, in the centre of your chest near your physical heart, the Heart Chakra is the centre for love, harmony and connection to the natural world.  In the body it is linked to the thymus area and the immune system, supporting your heart, lungs, upper torso, shoulders, arms and hands.  It is also the central point between the higher (spiritual) and lower (physical) chakras.  This is where a person’s soul shines through.  Turquoise is very closely linked to the heart, and is connected with a generosity of spirit and deeper communication.

  • Used in healing: Green is a universal colour for sending and receiving messages of love, (pink is also sometimes used, such as rose quartz) and for tapping into the healing qualities in nature.  The turquoise end of the spectrum is calming and soothing – think aquamarine waters.

When this chakra is out of balance it represents (depending on the shade of green):
  • hatred, fear and inner turmoil engendered by an imbalance of physical or emotional issues
  • expressions of grief, pain felt in this area
  • a clingy or needy disposition
  • a distrust of others creating a guarded, closed, introspective personality
  • heart disorders, chest pain, asthma, allergies, circulation problems

3 - SOLAR PLEXUS Chakra   Personal Power

  • Positive attributes: The act of DOING.

Located along the spine, the Solar Plexus chakra houses the seat of your emotions, representing life force, confidence, self-esteem and self-worth.  It physically supports the liver, pancreas, gallbladder, stomach and spleen.  It is enhanced by the intellect, learning, knowledge and literature.  The soul (which comes from the Latin Sol, meaning Sun) is a metaphysical form of light.

  • Used in healing: Like the sun, it fills the nervous system with light and where it reaches the solar plexus, can boost human recognition, self-worth, ambition and willpower.

When this chakra is out of balance it represents:
  • gut and digestive problems caused by unresolved situations or emotional abuse
  • depression, frustration and anxiety caused by the denial of mental stimulation by withdrawing learning, reading, writing and knowledge
  • feelings of jealousy, fear, hatred, selfishness or shame are often trapped here and have associations with the colour of bile and can cause digestive problems
  • feelings of victimisation
  • frequent stomach pains

2 - SACRAL Chakra   Creativity, Sensuality and Pleasure

  • Positive attributes: Our sense of FEELING.

This is where we awaken our kundalini energy.  Located in the hips, sacrum, adrenal glands and genitals, the Sacral Chakra is the centre for clarity, pleasure, enthusiasm, sensuality, creativity, sense of self and others.  Emotional balance and procreation.  A joyous transition between red and yellow.  It is strongly influenced by genetic patterning, representing independence, happiness, the joys of intimacy, our sexuality, pleasures and desires and creative energies.

  • Used for healing: A useful colour when red is energetically too strong.  A wonderful healing tonic for an all-over bathe of colour.

When this chakra is out of balance it represents:
  • Sterility and impotence, caused by physical violation or sexual exploitation, rape
  • shame, guilt and sexual humiliation caused by violation of personal sexuality
  • a struggle to see yourself as 'sexy' or desirable

1 - BASE / ROOT Chakra    Courage, Sense of Belonging

  • Positive attributes: Our sense of BEING – as a physical entity, (me)

Located at the base of the spine, the Base Chakra represents earthly sensibilities and physical survival, safety and security: our physical connections (hands and feet) to the earth and sub-terrainian worlds.  Notions of where we come from (our roots) and to where we return.  The cycle of life and death.

  • Used in healing: Good for ‘grounding’ our physical bodies and anchoring ourselves to place.  This ‘hot’ colour can also be used to enliven flagging energies.

When this chakra is out of balance it represents:
  • disorientation and discomfort due to denial of physical needs or basic survival mechanisms through extremes of hunger, starvation, no shelter, thirst, exposure to the elements
  • fear, a fight or flight response caused by a threat to your sense of security or stepping out of your 'comfort zone'
  • pain from physical abuse
  • tensions leading to war or tribal unrest
  • feeling stuck in unfulfilling careers in the belief that money brings security
  • eating disorders, adrenal fatigue, foot or leg pains, rectal or colon problems, disorders of the immune system or bone strength
